本案住宅是一座度假和周末休閑屋， 坐落在奧克蘭附近一個充滿鄉村味道的小島上。 小屋的主人是一對從匹茲堡富人區搬來奧克蘭的美國職業夫婦。 他們有兩個孩子， 都已成年， （除了要給孩子們提供住處）還希望有一個能讓客人們在此小住幾日的空間。 他們想要一座“充滿奇思妙想但節省經費的”住宅， 能使他們有與城市不同的生活模式。

廚房—餐廳—起居空間像是一塊有遮陽篷遮擋的露營地。 這里是一個非正式的玻璃亭， 夾在兩個覆蓋雪松板的建筑體量之間， 兩個體量中容納的是私密房間。 玻璃亭內的景象一覽無遺， 而兩個建筑體量卻隱藏在雪松板后， 充滿神秘感。

新西蘭的生活有相當多的時間都是在室外度過的，

因此玻璃亭是向兩側開放的， 既可以選擇在東面隨著山坡上升的有頂庭院中消磨時光， 也可以選擇欣賞西面綠草如茵的山坡下大海的景色。 這里的盛行風正是從這西面的大海上吹來的。

與起居空間相鄰的主臥室就在一個雪松“盒子”中，

面對著一片私人景觀。 主臥上面一層是不常有人住的睡眠空間， 從室外走廊的一個隱蔽樓梯可以進入。 上面一層被分成了多個小單元。 在這里， 網格狀的百葉窗能遮擋住西面的驕陽， 為睡眠區域提供安全保障， 還能讓人欣賞到像素化的風景， 并遮擋來自西南方向的暴風雨。

建筑設計充滿矛盾。 客房是私密的房間， 但卻只用輕質的隔板進行分隔， 床邊的窗戶很危險， 但向外傾斜的百葉窗卻保證了安全性。 每一個房間都像鳥巢一樣， 既危險又舒適。

音樂室用客戶自己的話說就是一個“思考的地方”。 它還是一個演奏現場音樂和錄制音樂以及閱讀的地方。 在這里只能看到一點點室外的壯麗景色，
